School streets are roads that have restrictions for a short period of time around schools to traffic at pick-up and drop-off times.
A school street business exemption permit is available to businesses that have a premises within a school street zone. It allows the permit holder to enter the zone during the restricted times. Once a permit application has been approved the exemption permit will be valid for 24 months.
This is a virtual permit and will be valid instantly from the date selected. You do not need to display anything in the vehicle.
How to apply

Cost
A school street business exemption permit is free of charge.
Before you begin
To apply for this permit as a business owner you will need to supply one of the following:
- Proof of Business dated within the last 3 months. This should be a bank statement, gas, electricity, water or telephone bill, business rates document or a signed and dated formal tenancy/lease or rental agreement for where you work.
Or to apply for this permit as an employee you will need to supply one of the following:
- A copy of your contract of employment, pay slip (with sensitive information blanked out) within the last 3 months, company/work I.D. badge, or a letter from your employer on headed paper.
You must also show proof that the vehicle is registered at the applicant’s address, this includes:
- Vehicle registration document (V5C)
- Hire or lease agreement
- Sales invoice from a dealership
- A letter from your employer on headed paper (if a company car)
- Current schedule of insurance, which must have at least 3 months remaining
Photographs of any documentation will be accepted.
Please note this school street business exemption permit does not entitle you to park on street if within a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ).
